I've got your basic macbook pro--not a dinosaur computer.

Wondering if you have had other users with a similar problem, and is there anything to do about it?

I haven't had other reports but I'll look out for this. I also use a MacBook Pro. Do you remember what the ads were for?

I have the same issue - periodically. Also, a MacBook Pro.

I'll pay attention from now on and get back to you on that. It's been going on for under a week (maybe 4 days) if that helps narrow it down.

I'm not sure which ads because I've just been putting on my adblocker for the site (which allows me to view, but I have to disable it to reply).

I will say that it seems some ads have gone up a notch--I don't remember auto-play video before.

I specifically prohibit autoplay video ads. So, if any are appearing, they are in violation of the terms I've set with the ad networks I run and I will block them once they've been identified.

I was a "recent topics" and the computer message came up. It reads, verbatim:

"This web page is using significant energy. Closing it may improve the responsiveness of your mac."

The video ad plays at the very bottom was hard to determine because the content seemed cut for a taller window cutout (vertically). But it was a hotels video with a white teddy bear running around.

I'm typing this for the second time (and the type appears on the screen slower than I type.) I couldn't get my reply to load. FYI the white teddy bear is back. The screen it appears on is too narrow, vertically, for me to see the name of the advertiser (like, I can only see the top of the bear's head). Ok it's gone now and there is just white space; can't tell there was a window there anymore.

Ah, back again. Ok there is actually a toggle on the side of the window so I can see other parts of the ad. Teddy bear on the computer. Still can't see what advertiser.

I too am having significant memory memory usage with this site. One of the the autoplaying ads is Weight Watchers. I can't tell what another is I'm currently seeing, but involves a car stunt driving, a man talking to the screen, and a shot of a cell phone.

ALSO, I am frequently auto-directed to a different website even though I don't click on links. Like, I'll just be reading through a thread, and suddenly a page warning me to update my system loads. You may want to check this site for malware.

I posted the above. Went back to the Recent Posts page, and an Accord Hotels video ad loaded.

Now I get a Sensodyne toothpaste video ad.

Yeah, point is almost all of the ads I'm seeing are autoplaying videos.

I was just able to replicate one of these ads and track it to the network which provided it. I've contacted the network and asked them to stop the ad that I saw and any other ads using the same technology. It may take a couple of hours for them to turn the ads off.

Just got the same message with the same ad at the bottom of the page. DP.

I've got a vimeo video ad that started playing when I came onto this thread.

I'm on an ancient Toshiba Satellite if it makes a difference.
