Comcast alternatives

Anonymous
Anybody know of any cable/internet alternatives to Comcast other than DirectTV? We are at the end of our ropes with the problems that we have had with Comcast and we are surrounded by condo buildings that prevent us from going with DirectTV. Any chance Verizon Fios is going to make it into the city anytime soon?

We have RCN.

We just broke free from Comcast. We switched to Fios and are saving about $100 per month. So many channels, no internet outage yet... We are in Arlington though.

We live in Arlington and switched from Comcast to Verizon Fios. Comcast had the worst customer service I have ever experienced! We are much happier with Fios. Good luck!

We switched to RCN after having internet connection problems start to crop up every bleeding night and dealing with Comcast's awful customer service. Not a problem has cropped up since then. I am interested in how much the FiOS runs for phone, net, and cable and how fast they tend to be.

Ugh - we have DirecTV and it's the worst. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Comcast.

I never thought I'd say I miss Comcast either, but RCN is worse. Believe me!

As of tomorrow I am getting rid of Directv and going back to comcast. I never had any problems with comcast, but we were only with them for six months before we moved.
I always know it's going to storm, before it does, because I loose my Directv picture.

I'd be curious if the DirectTV problem is because you have poor line-of-sight or a certain make of receiver? We have DrectTV and rarely ever lose the signal. Usually only once or twice a year during a huge thunderstorm. Our reception was getting worse this summer and it turned out to be a piece on the dish. They came out and replaced it and we've never had a problem since. This is the only problem we ever had with them and we've had the service and same satellite dish for 7 years.

We have a perfect line of sight. The front of our house has an unobstructed view of the southern skies. We have also gone through three dishes, and loose the HD channels first, then the international channels, and finally the regular ones.

Anyone know if RCN or Verizon Fios are available in the district (NW) ?

We have FIOS for internet (its okay, I guess, but I think its expensive!) and Dish Network for satellite TV. We LOVE Dish - been with them for almost 4 years and have only had rare minor problems that were fixed immediately. They have a great DVR - better than Tivo IMO and you can record & access recorded shows from any TV in the house.

I do hate how all of the companies have forced everyone into the "better" (more expensive) services. We really wanted DSL for internet, but once FIOS became available in our neighborhood, Verizon no longer allows us to have DSL, even though DSL is $15/month cheaper. I don't need it that fast - DSL is fine for email and reading articles online. Same with cable - we used to have basic (non-digital) cable. It was about $35/month I think. The only reason we switched to Dish Network was because the cable company was FORCING us to get digital, which was going to cost almost double what we were paying.

ARGHH! We're not all "techies" and don't need top of the line everything. I wish they would stop "improving" things and then sticking me with the bill for it.

Sorry. I'm done with my rant now!

I'm so bummed to hear what the PP said about being forced to upgrade to FIOS. We just upgraded our DSL with Verizon because we had to replace our broken modem and had no choice (we had a really old DSL modem). I really don't want to have to upgrade again and pay even more $$! We are so cheap we subscribe to DirectTV and cell phone plans that are no longer offered to new customers. At least with TV you always have the option of just getting the signal over the air.
