Just thought I'd start a thread where people could praise (or rant) about their Summer soccer camp experiences.
We attended a standard DC United session one week in July. Was a six-hour session with a lunch break. Teams were loosely broken out by age (several age groups mixed). Quality level was mixed, with some boys challenging for elite teams and some boys just recreational level. That said most of the boys and girls I saw there had fun, made some friends, etc. Was a pretty well run camp and kids were happy. |
Do they let parents participate in the camp too? I play with an adult rec team, and would love doing soccer camp with DD to work on some of my skills. |
| Our older DD did the UVA camp at Episcopal HS which is pretty good for a 1/2 week. Its an overnight camp. |
| 11 year old son did an HP Elite shooting and finishing camp in July. Four days in a row, 3 hours per day. I felt like it was nowhere near as good as the same camp my son attended the year before. I think the trainers are very good. I felt the drills were good, but the quality of the kids there was not very good at all. Looks like they are taking anyone. Similar comment when son did the complete player camp over the winter. |
I feel like it's that way across the area. You get so many kids whose parents just signed them up to get them out of the house and away from Fortnite. My kids are very into soccer and go to camps to get something out of them. They end up getting kids mixed on the scrimmage teams that just want to sit there and yap about video games. I tell my kids to just work hard and having to play multiple positions during the scrimmage to make up for the kids actively not participating will only make them better .
Most camps will make every effort to group kids of similar ability together, but it's hard when the quality overall is very low. |
| We've done HP Elite camps that we've liked. We typically try to get a few kids from the team to sign up together. Nice to have friends, and nice to have a group of similar-ability kids. |
I agree but HP Elite was supposed to be selective. Now it seems to be taking everyone. |
