| I just got results back from my OB and she said I had a hcg level of 44. I was either 12 or 13 dpo when I had them drawn (wasn’t tracking cycle). OB immediately wrote this off as a chemical/early miscarriage since the numbers are low and I have been spotting/light bleeding for the last 3 days. But when I look online at beta base the numbers don’t look too horrible. I had to convince OB that I needed redraws at 48 hours. Plus my HPT tests are getting darker every day. any insight into this? What were your beta numbers like at this point? Was it a viable pregnancy? |
| It was lame for your dr not to automatically suggest a redraw. It does not sound positive (sorry) given the number and light bleeding. But to know one way or the other is always helpful. And my first draw with my son was 25 - however it was around 9dpo and I had no spotting or bleeding. Good luck. |
I call BS. 1) they don't draw so early 2) Only dynamics tell you anything - doubling time. One number in isolation is not indicative, especially so early. OP, you're leaving something out from this story, because any dr or nurse will know both 1&2. |
Op here ... no not leaving anything out. Although I am pretty sure I have a crappy ob. They did early draws because I got positive HPTs for 3 days but have been bleeding spotting/light for 3 days as well. The OB didn’t suggest a 48 hour redraw because my numbers are low and I have been bleeding so she just wrote it off as non viable. I had to push for 48 hour redraw for my peace of mind. |

agree that the beta base numbers make it seem like you are in a pretty good place. Also check out this website with a scatter chart: https://www.wantbaby.info/calculators/beta-hcg-levels/comment-page-5?mode=dpo&cycle=28&day1=13&hcg1=44&day2&hcg2&pregnancy=0
I'm also 13 dpo and had my beta drawn today and am at 71. My last pregnancy, which did end up as a chemical, I got a beta of 63 at 16 dpo (if you double yours would be around 90 by 14/15 dpo, so much higher) and my nurse told me it was "good" and in the range of normal, though it did seem low from reading online and then did end in a chemical (went down to 25 48 hrs later). Anyways, I know this wait is torture and I'm here with you! Really hope you and I both see it double on Saturday. And get a new OB for sure!! |

44 is normal at 12 or 13 DPO. To the PP, some OBs do an early draw. Mine does an initial blood draw to confirm a HPT and then schedules the next appointment for 8 weeks.
Anyway, my numbers at 12-14 DPO were: DC#1 - 35 DC#2 - about the same as #1 - I don't remember the exact #. Pregnancy 3 - 50ish (ended in an early miscarriage.) DC#3 - 79 I think it's very odd that your OB wouldn't do a follow up draw, given that you're bleeding. I also think it's odd to assume it isn't viable with a normal hcg #. |
Op here ... thanks PP! If I wasn’t bleeding I would definitely think that this pregnancy has a chance even with low beta numbers. But given the bleeding I am not sure. Unfortunately I won’t get my results back until Monday! So annoying. Good luck to you! |

We did our first IUI earlier this summer. I had positive HPTs and a couple of tell-tale early pregnancy signs by 9-11 dpiui, so I called my clinic and had my beta early, only 11 dpiui. It was 38. Will be 10 weeks tomorrow, and so far so good! My RE said the lowest initial beta he has seen that resulted in a viable pregnancy was like 17, but he didn't say what day that was on.
Good luck OP. May your bleeding subside and betas continue to rise. My current pregnancy was the 4th time we conceived in 13 months (2 chemicals and miscarriage at 7 weeks before this one) on our journey to bring home our first child. As with many other women on these boards, I understand the anticipation and anxiety that comes with the early positive hpts and betas. |
| did your doctor also check your P4 levels? |
Not that they told me - op here |
| 13dpo for 2 different successful pregnancies they were 111 and 113 |

Testing every 48 hours is key here so glad you pushed, OP. When I had my chemical I am pretty sure my beta was 24 at 13dpo and even then my OB wanted to monitor closely to see where things went and make sure if it was a chemical that my numbers came back down properly (if they go up and down i guess that can be a sign of an ectopic).
As for the bleeding/spotting, I would definitely ask for a progesterone check when they do your blood draw next. I have had low progesterone in the past and needed to supplement. I am currently 7 weeks and I did have spotting leading up to my positive pregnancy test. It was never heavy, but I kept thinking I was on the verge of getting my period. Then it just disappeared. I don’t think I tested until like 16dpo because I was so sure I was about to get my period. |
| My hcg was 39 the 1 st time 72 hours later 113 is that good? Progesterone is 6.1 |
| I had a beta of 56 at 10dp6dt - the equivalent of 16DPO. My clinic was very pessimistic about my chances with that starting number, but it doubled well and I'm 13 weeks now. Definitely get a second draw. |

Your OB is an irresponsible idiot. Low/not doubling betas can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy
