Help me redesign my small home office?

Anonymous
Spouse and I work from home on different days. We've been sharing a desk in our small spare bedroom which is also our overflow stuff storage. I'd like to have separate desks and a nicer space to work in.

It's a small 10 x 12 room with a window opposite the door and a small closet on one wall near the door. Currently white walls, beige carpet, and dark furniture. The shared desk is on the same wall as the door, facing away from the window.

There is room for a desk on either side of the window, but then you've got your back to the door. I work with dual monitors (spouse just with his laptop) so I don't want those to block the window. I do need to keep some storage although not as much as we currently have. I'm wiling to paint and buy some things, but no built-ins or other construction.

How would you lay this out? Any decor ideas?

If you can, I would put the monitors on the wall and float a single desk in the middle of the room with a wireless keyboard. The room is small enough that you'll be an appropriate distance, but a desk on wheels is also great. Storage (credenzas or bookshelves) along the wall, put your things in baskets so you can move them easily to the desk when you're working. Since you have to alternate, you'll be forced to keep the desk clear.

I just hate desks against a wall though so maybe that's a personal thing. It's also handy for us because you can move the desk out and put an airbed or a thanksgiving overflow table.
