| Seems weird and lazy to be just days away from school year 2018-2019 yet school profiles still reflect demographics info for school year 2016-2017. Organizations that don't keep their stuff updated just sends a message of dysfunction. |
The message is correct. |
|
it all gets updated at once -- usually when the new PARCC scores are posted on the profile pages.
Supposedly those are being released on 8/16 so probably by mid-September |
| Guessing they are having trouble nailing down the correct IB percentages. |
Lol. |
| those school profiles are the main "marketing" piece DCPS provides. I would think that keeping them fresh and updated would be a priority. but apparently not. |
|
they don't want people making decisions based on the racial breakdown of the student body. but they should remove it altogether instead of putting outdated info.
also, the information is not that helpful for families who do care about racial demographics since many schools are 5% white in 5th grade and 40% white in PK. Knowing the overall demographics of the school doesn't tell you what your kid's class is going to look like (or plenty of other non-demographic info that matters to whether your kid will get a good education there). |
No, demographics aren't a main "marketing " piece for DCPS. Demographics are only important to you and Laura Ingraham. |
You are assuming that DCPS cares about marketing to people who look at demographic profiles. I don't think that is the case. |
Uh, hi insinuator, the school profiles are more than just the small demographics section. And they are undoubtedly the main marketing piece for DCPS schools. Go to dcps.dc.gov and the first main tab is "Our Schools" The first main menu selection in that section is "DCPS school profiles." If you're new to the District and shopping around for schools, those profiles are what you find first. |
I'm assuming DCPS cares that the information that I find on those profiles is as up to date as possible. If the demographics section reflects SY 206-2017 why shouldn't I assume all the other information on the profile is equally as dated. It just makes DCPS look unprofessional and sloppy. |
| so wait. DCPS chooses to include demographic info on the school profiles but because someone wonders why DCPS doesn't keep the information it provides up-to-date that makes them racist? Plus, the demographics section is more than about race. That's where you look to see enrollment numbers, percentage of economically disadvantaged, percentage of ELL and in-boundary percentage. Do people really expect families to choose schools without familiarizing themselves with information like this? Sorry if it hurts your sensitivities that families might want to know stats about a school but in the real world this information matters. |
NP. If the OP had said "when will the school profiles be updated to reflect any changes in programming, IB/OOB percentages, and PARCC scores..." I'd agree with you.. But when all they seem to want to know is updated 'demographics' ... it gets old. |
NP. If you think only Fox News watchers care about school demographics, you are completely delusional. Everybody cares about demographics in some way or another. |
You can call the school and ask if it's that important to you. |
