Korean Eating Videos on YouTube, WTH??

Anonymous
I just noticed these videos. What's up with them?? Most of them are skinny young women eating like 20lbs of food in one sitting. I don't get it. Kinda disgusting if you ask me.

Racist.

Mukbang videos are very popular and have been for a few years. Several articles have been written about the phenomenon.

Not racist - WTH? - a niche - maybe weird but they have millions watching.

Mukbang videos are not racist upthread PP.

They are a niche film I think for people who have a mild-to-extreme fetish for eating. I don't really get the popularity but its there.

i had never heard of this before. I'm speechless.

One can only guess what happens after the cameras are turned off.

It's kind of soothing to watch. You don't have to have any pre-existing knowledge about a product or service. The sounds remind me of home. And what's more pleasurable than watching someone eat? Like all the new moms who just stare at their baby while feeding.

It's like watching a cooking show with Gambian sounds and getting the pleasure of your mouth-watering plus eating. I can see why people like it.

Seeing white people have a mukbang with like ... Taco Bell or Cheesecake Factory seems really stupid to me.

But ...?

Not as...something lol. Less authentic...more weird if that's possible.

Yes, it's crazy! Somehow I happened upon one and it was a tiny woman eating massive amounts of noodle soups and just an unbelievable amount of food. As she ate you could hear the "cash" rolling in and as "fans" were sponsoring her and rewarding her, her computer registering the receipt of some online currency.

I think it's at least in part fueled by fans who themselves are on very strict diets. They live vicariously.

It’s on par with AMSR videos of people eating, brushing hair, filing nails...they’re very soothing.

Clearly you've never heard of Trisha Paytas.

I don't mind mukbangs on in the background. I like living vicariously through other people's dietary indulgances (maybe I'm a secret 'feeder'). But ASMAR... like nails on a chalkboard! Uggghhhh
