can you get the actual flu from flumist vaccine? or just a mild illness?

My family will get h1n1 flumist vaccine this week, hopefully. I know this would be a rare side-effect, but can one actually get the flu or transmit the flu in all its glory as a result of the flumist vaccine? Or would it only be a mild illness that develops? I guess I'm thinking that if the potential side-effects are as life-threatening as the virus itself, we should get the shot (just hate to put my kids through two more). Thanks for any input.
