yeah, thanks. it's my home country but not sure how that changes anything. I would prefer to borrow money in the US and buy for cash over there.

?? I don't see what this has to do with buying property abroad. This answer would work for purchasing anything, a car, a college education...You couldn't have figured that out?

the value is in confirming that there is no better way - e. g. something specifically tailored to foreign real estate.
