Hello DCUM&D. My husband and I plan to enroll our daughter in a part-time preschool in September 2019. She has a July birthday and will be just over two years old.
We live in North Cleveland Park, so there are lots of good schools nearby. However, it looks like many of our preferred options (NCRC, St. John's, and St. Columba's) don't start until 2.5 years. So I have two questions: first, is 2.5 yrs. a hard cutoff at those schools, or do they make exceptions if it they determine during the interview/tour that your child would "fit in" developmentally? And second, can you recommend preschools in the area that accommodate 2 year olds? So far, I've identified Aidan, Franklin, and Metropolitan -- and School for Friends if we opt for a full-day program. Thanks! |
| Sorry, OP here - one more question. Are any of these NW DC preschool programs (besides SFF) available year-round? Thanks again. |
| I can't recommend School for Friends enough. It's a wonderful place--and an easy drop-off from Cleveland Park if either you or your husband work downtown. |

River School, in the Palisades, starts at 18 months and has mid-year admissions as well (i.e. they also have a class of kids that is 18 months by January rather than 18 months by September).
If you are looking for something year-round, look for a daycare with an integrated preschool, rather than a dedicated preschool. |
| CCPC, CCUMC, and All Saints (all in Chevy Chase) have programs for 1.5-2 year olds. |
| Goddard School |
Where is there a Goddard School in NW DC? I didn’t think they had any locations in DC itself. |
| OP if you’re still looking, NCRC will start at 2 next year instead of 2.5, if you’re still interested in applying there. |

Gan HaYeled is in Cleveland Park, takes kids who are 2 by September, and has a variety of programs.

| Lots of preschool cooperatives will take kids at 2 rather than 2.5. Concord-St. Andrews, Norwood Park/BCC Nursery School etc. |
