I will be in Quebec city with one of my boys (DS age 14) at the end of August for a week. I was thinking about taking an excursion but only have time for one. Which would you recommend: a whale watching trip to Tadoussac staying in a hotel in la Malbaie for two days or Mont Tremblant for three days staying in the pedestrian village and doing various outdoor activities.
I am wondering if one of these side trips far exceeds the other in terms of natural beauty as well as unique experience. |
| I would pick Charlevoix. I recently visited the newly inaugurated Musée Maritime de Charlevoix in St-Joseph-de-la-Rive and it was great. You can even board the boats. There are schooners and a tugboat. Tadoussac is very pretty but I would do the excursion on the Saguenay Fjord instead of the whale watching trip. If you decide to go whale watching, you can board the boat in Baie-Ste-Catherine in Charlevoix. |
| I also liked la Chèvrerie de Charlevoix in Ste-Agnès-de-la-Malbaie. They do artisan goat cheese, from the very mild to the very strong. The owners are from Pays de Basque in France. |
A nice restaurant in Baie-St-Paul is Le Mouton Noir. Also, brunch at Manoir Richelieu. This is where the G7 was hosted this year.

| They are both great |

OP,
Haven't been to either but interested in doing this with DH and DS 15. Have fun and report back! |
Just did a 2 week trip to this whole area and we stayed at the Fairmont Manoir Richelieu. So pretty! I would do the Charlevoix also but we are also going back to Mont Tremblant over an extended Labor Day weekend because we had such a wonderful time there too (also stayed at the Fairmont there). You honestly can’t go wrong either way. Have fun! |
