| Would you allow it- for a 13 year old? I found a bunch recorded on our DVR and DD says it’s her new favorite show. She watched with friends and became hooked. |
| No |
| No but I teach high school as it's really popular among freshmen and sophomores. |
|
Yes.
There are actually some very good lessons taught on that show about consent, self-care, domestic violence, child abuse, and female leadership. Teens need to understand that they don't "owe" anyone sex, they have a right to say no at any time, and no one--- NO ONE--- has a right to hurt them. Ever. SVU does a good job sending those messages. Some of the episodes are very, very intense. I'd steer her away from any of the Season 14/15 episodes with Pablo Schreiber (who played William Lewis), as well as the episodes "Undercover" and "Something Happened." Those are quite intense. |
| My DD went through a phase of watching it. I explained why I didn't want her to watch it, and then let her make the decision. She watched for a few months, then was over it. |
| Yes. |
| If your kid isn’t the type who is scared by violence/graphic images (I.e., won’t be able to get them out of her head, etc), I’d say yes. As a PP said, it actually has excellent messaging most of the time and some serious subjects are dealt with very sensitively. |
| Too many rapes |
| At 13, yes. |
| no! |
Absolutely! To those of you who say 'no', what is the reason? Do you think teenagers are not 'ready'? |
|
Not 13. 16, yes.
too traumatic. even I have nightmares sometimes after watching it. you can teach your kids about how to protect themselves without watching SUV |
| I don't have a 13 year old yet. Are people still monitoring a 13 year old's tv viewing that closely? This really surprises me. How/why would you do that? A 13 year old can't be trusted to choose for themselves? |
There have been very few graphic scenes in any of the 19 seasons that have aired so far. A large number of the episodes have nothing to do with rape. There have been episodes about domestic violence, child abuse, child abduction, and some that it makes no sense the SVU detectives would investigate, such as animal smuggling and illegal organ procurement. |
|
Most episodes, yes.
There are a few that I felt uncomfortable watching, myself. |
