Good luck to those sending dear children off to college!

Especially those sending a child off for the first time and/or about to experience the empty nest for the first time!

If you don't shed a tear or two in the process have someone check your pulse. Expect flashbacks and emotion, but that first "parent's weekend" or Thanksgiving reunion will come soon enough and you'll learn to adapt. A real inflection point in life.

This is too much. Nobody needs luck. They need to plan.

First two or three weeks most dangerous for a freshman - no friends group to look out for them so tell them to keep safe!

Over the last 12 or so years, we have sent our DS to nearly 50 camps as either a camper, a CIT or a counselor.

This process was an important part of our "plan" to help him develop skills for meeting people the first few weeks of college.

No, we didn't start out that way at 6 but since he had a knack/need for it in HS, the "plan" was intentionally developed.

I say thank-you to the OP.

Despite all his "training" and the fact that wishes don't change anything, DS is going to need some luck over the last week of August and the first week of September to build relationships that are going to get him through the mid terms of October and the finals of December as and engineering major.

There is no doubt he is up for this part of the challenge and everyone is going to be looking to do the same thing but there is a bit of luck that determines if he ends up having math with his straight A neighbor or the woman who is going to break his heart for the first time.
