Beauty and Fashion
| Thank you. I've never owned designer shoes like this and I got these on sale. I'm not sure how best to take care of fancy shoes. |
| I think you have to have a pretty fancy cobbler. The toe caps mine had last time I tried this were too large for the pointy toes. (Of course, styles have probably changed since then...) |
|
No. You should wear your fabulous new shoes as they are and when you notice that they are starting to wear you can take them to the cobbler for maintenance. If you treat your shoes well and keep them maintained they should last a long time. I take all my designer shoes to:
Corrective Shoe Repair 1502 21st Street NW Washington DC 20036 (202) 232-8567 |
| Sky Valet on Wisconsin in Glover Park is also good for this. Agree that you shouldn't do anything until they start to wear. You should take them to be polished/cleaned and they'll identify for you when you need to think about tips and caps and whatnot. |
| Wow, thanks for the great advice! |
|
I always get the caps put on right away. Sky Valet is good but very pricey. I always bring my new shoes and boots up to NY where the cobblers are good and cheap and used to putting caps on expensive shoes.

Oooh, 12:54 - too pricey yet you schlep your stuff up to NY? Reeeeallly..........
Had no idea that putting on heel and toe caps was such a fine art that only certain cities have the talent to accomplish this work. I don't think that the Choo vendors here send all their stuff up to NY to be fixed. |

NP here. PP, don't be a jerk. You KNOW *NY* knows pricey fashion. DC is not even close to being the fashion hub. More like" Frump City". Plenty of people go to their home states to shop or have their hair done since this area is so pathetically lacking in decent places (though there is a salon on every corner). In fact, isn't it called "Ugly Hollywood" when stars come to town? People who think they are from here (there are very few) are unneccessarily defensive about things about which they know nothing. Entertaining, though. |
PP here. Wow. I just meant that NY has a lot of CHEAP shoe repair shops. You can get taps on your shoes for less than $20. Sky Valet charges triple. That's all. |
| NP here and I have to agree. I used to live in Manhattan and there was a good shoe repair store every 4 blocks. Here, I'll spend $50 and they can't even correctly mend a black leather shoe ... |
NP here. I think yours was more of a jerk posting that the PPs. No, DC is not a fashion hub like NYC, but it's come a long way. I don't think I'd call it either Frump City or the Ugly Hollywood. And there are plenty of decent places to get your hair done. In fact, I have several friends who get their hair done when they're in town here. |

Whatever. You won't change my mind or the minds of those who are accustomed to better. |
16:53 - Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, there are much better ways of phrasing your opinions that would respect the views of others instead of coming across as arrogant. Your phrasing sounds a little too......"New York." If in Rome (or DC), do as the Romans do.

Any good cobblers in Arlington. I have one pair of manolos in need of polish etc.
TIA! |
|
Um, I think you have to go to Rome for that. Lest we come across as "arrogant". |
