DH and I are looking for deals and ideas. Has anyone been there? tips?
Where to stay? Fiji? Bora bora? Thanks

| We stayed at the InterContinental in Tahiti which was really nice. They have those overwater bungalows which looked even better. We sailed around to some of the islands and Bora Bora was breathtaking. I would stay there if I went back again. |

French Polynesia is breathtaking beautiful, especially Bora Bora. We landed in Tahiti (be sure you can stop by the Market (Le Marche) for all of your souvenier shopping (vanilla beans, loose pearls, wood carvings, scarfs, liquor, etc) from our long flight from LAX. The flight was amazing since you flew on a Boeing 767 and landing on the smallest landing strip and walked down the plane to the sound of island music in the middle of the night. We were whisked away to the InterContinental Hotel to recouperate from the flight -- Air Tahiti Nui (great flight to Tahiti). If you have time to explore Tahiti, I would suggest riding Le Truck. Be warned Le Truck is dangerous ill suited by western standards of safety. Granted, every vehicle you see on the island look like you can left it with min. effort. I still crack up about Le Truck but it's frequent and takes your where your want to go. Plus, you experience the island in a non-tourist setting.
We took an island hopper to Huahine. This was by far my favorite island although no where as drop dead gorgeous as Bora Bora - more on that later. We went horse back riding and were able to explore the island. We stayed in an deep overwater bunglow at the Te Tiare Beach Resort and I loved it. The bungalows are located more in a lagoon with a rocky bottom rather than a sandy beach however, it made for excellent snorkeling. Then we flew to Bora Bora for our stay at the Pearl Beach Resort. You really can't imagine how beautiful the view is from your room (premium overwater bungalow). Pictures/film doesn't do it justice. Imagine the bluest sky, the clearest water, the deep green vegatations, and jewel color flow you have every seen and multiply it by 1000. Resturant selections was limited and we did go to Bloody Mary...a bit cheesy and okay food. Bora Bora is must for its shear beauty. A bit boring on the island if you need to be entertained. Everyone at the hotel was with a significant other and no one wanted to talk to bothered. I love it but I perferred Huahine's casual atmosphere more. The only thing I wished we did was to rent a car on Tahiti and Bora Bora for a day. Hope you plan a trip there. It was well worth it (btw, we went for our honeymoon 8 years ago and we plan on going back). |
