Infertility Support and Discussion
|
We started TTC #2 last September. Got PG in June, m/c in July. With permission from our m/w, started TTC again in late Aug/early Sept after first missed period. I have TCOYF, but, I admit, haven't read it since the first pregnancy. I used the Clearblue Fertility Monitor with PG #1 and was successful the first month I used it - that was nearly 4 years ago.
I'm frustrated that it is taking so long, and while I tend to avoid meds/interventions if I can, I'm wondering if it is worth me contacting a RE? Maybe I'm being premature, and should give this a little more time, I know. We tried for 7 mos before #1. I have a birthday at the end of the year, and I really just want one more child - and while I'm certainly not old, I just want to get started on this chapter. And yes, I'm a bit of a Type A personality.
Would love to hear how others decided to pursue seeing a RE. Thanks. |
| How old are you? |
| I wanted to note that you can have your OB order some preliminary screening tests (day 3 bloodwork for you, HSG to check if your tubes are clear and semen analysis for your husband). Then, if anything shows up amiss in those tests, I would go to an RE. I think the general rule of thumb is also to go to an RE if you are under 35 and have been ttc for a year or more or it's been over 6 months and you're older than 35. |
| OP here - I'm about to turn 34. |
| You can go anytime you want. The above guidelines are just that--guidelines. The RE may tell you to try some more, or they might intervene. I'm also a type A, and I made an appt after 6 months of trying when I was 25. I knew something was wrong. Turns out I was right, and it took me 3 years to conceive. |
| I could have almost written this post myself. I am also very type A and wondering when to seek help to see if we have any problems. Our first son was an oops 2 years ago so there were no apparent problems for us then but now it's been a few months and I can't seem to get it right! Dealing with the 2ww right now and am getting myself sooooo worked up. |
| As noted above, there are guidelines depending on your age, but those are just guidelines. Listen to your body- you know it best. I was having a period every 2 months or so and my dr tried to tell me that it was b/c I was coming off the pill. But that had been 4 months prior, and I just KNEW something was wrong. Went to an RE and lo and behold, both DH and I had fertility problems. BTW, we were 31 and 33 at the time. |
