Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| Also there is no way transportation is being factored as one of four principles and they are messing with schools that are within a 4 mile radius and leaving Langley commute times alone |
Floris, Coates and McNair are all Westfield feeders and the school is located in the Floris district. So if Floris moves to the new school, as it should, you can’t leave Coates and McNair at Westfield, as they’d be an attendance island. Either they move to the new school or they move to Herndon. Also, it makes more sense to move Crossfield (and the Navy island) to the new school than Fox Mill because those are the kids with the really long commute to Oakton. It’s fine to leave Fox Mill at South Lakes, as it’s not that far. The Fox Mill families who don’t like IB should work to have SL replace IB with AP. |
You’re asking for an English immersion program….isnt that what regular schools are? Dont ALL kids want to learn in a classroom without behavior issues? Why do you think there would be no behavior issues at a magnet school? Goodie for kids who test in to whatever magnet style is popular these days but what about the kids who live in the high school desert this site as a regular high school could solve? |
Not in the Eastern part of the county where the boundary review is trying to balance ESOL kids--notably in Glen Forest, Sleepy Hollow, Baileys, and some others. It doesn't take a genius to pull real estate data for neighborhoods that feed high ESOL schools and see how FCPS policies are not about delivering great education to all students, but rather placating vocal minorities at the expense of taxpayers and people who believe in merit. |
Many members of the school board set up this straw men argument where they say they want to ignore the loudest voices and focus on representing the silent members of the community, but what they don’t consider is that the voices they hear are representative of the community. No one wants the boundary changes to impact their kids. Cognitive dissonance at its finest, by St. John cunning, moon, and Sandy A. |
Chip.On.Shoulder. Fight your own fight and leave communities that have nothing to do with you out of it. |
| Y'all realize that they have money in reserves, right? Stoopid selfish mommies. |
OMG get a life, LOL! |
It’s crazy how the SB member in charge of the new western high school area wasn’t even there. She had someone else “ask a question for her” and was just on zoom with no video and muted. She didn’t attend community boundary meetings either. |
💯 The person saying "The school board is trying to jam you with boundary changes. A community group is pushing back on your behalf. Literally fighting your fight" is clearly a member of said community group and clearly attempting to do some damage control. Sorry ladies/gentlemen, it's not working. You do not speak for us. We want this change. Go back to focusing on your own kids and your own high school and stop pretending you know what's best for neighborhoods that are nowhere near you. |
| What’s wrong with Herndon? Someone fill me in |
Totally agree that this magnet school is going to be such a game changer in the western part of the county. TJ 2.0! |
They were sitting on $150 million in reserves this whole time? Man those teachers who didn’t get their full promised raises and those schools who are still waiting to get their renovations must be super pissed right now. |
When you can’t attack the message, attack the messenger. I’m not part of the next door poster’s groups, haven’t even seen all the messages. You are an unserious person if you don’t think constituents deserve accountability for a transaction this size - I haven’t said I’m against it, because I don’t have enough information either way to determine whether it was a good purchase or not, much as you try to twist my words. But you are a deeply unserious person whose lack of interest in ethics and responsibility in local government does real harm to the county. It’s you, you’re the problem, it’s you. Good luck with your new magnet school. |

Did anyone watching the work session hear that at the BRAC meeting on Monday they will be reviewing NEW maps based on feedback?
I don’t think that was the original agenda so someone is definitely changing things up- gotta stay on top of it this summer. |
