Mine is kind of generic but at the time it blew my mind.
Egg McMuffin (I was 15 and it was first time I remember breaking on purpose at least - though I bet I had eggs & buttered toast out) |
| What's wrong with eggs (parve) and buttered toast? |
| The jewish side of my family has never been kosher but my grandparents had a fondness for Maryland crabs. They would not have eaten pork products but don't get in the way of them and a crab feast! Another family I know, who does keep Kosher at home, will eat lobster at a restaurant. I'm a big fan of both so I get it. |

I don’t know honestly know what foods are parve. My family only kept kosher because my mom married an observant guy. That marriage ended 30 years ago so none of the rules stuck. |
| Honey Baked Ham. Our extended family was together, and the wife (non Jewish) of a cousin brought one to a family event. We devoured it, and I know order one for every big family event. |
Many McD's will allow you to substitute extra eggs or potatoes for the meat (if you are willing to eat vegetarian at a treyf place) |
if its not meat or dairy its pareve - IE neutral and can be eaten with dairy, or with meat. |
I used to make a mean meatless lasagna for a shabbat supper group. |
| Lobster rolls and bacon with eggs. |
| Why are people reporting on how to make food kosher? This is a thread about people breaking kosher! Obviously if the person who ate the food tried to they could have made the food kosher. That's not the point. |
| If you're going to have one exception i.e. bacon or shrimp, why be kosher at all? What's the point? |
I do keep kosher and I don't have any exceptions, but I think the answer to this is: because it's not all or nothing, or it doesn't have to be. You do the best you can do. |
I'm jewish and I struggle with this. To me, keeping kosher is what you put into your body, not where you put it into your body. If you keep kosher in the house, then why not keep kosher outside the house? Yes, I get it. It's hard. Even in a place like NYC, it's hard. I don't keep kosher for this reason. I'm not willing to keep kosher out of the house. But the thing I love about Judaism is that everyone defines there own level of what they are comfortable with. What I do, how I do it, has no impact on anyone else. And for the most part, within the mainstream jewish community, people don't pass judgement on how observant you are/are not. |
