I have always hated having periods. As soon as I started on the pill I rarely took the inactive pills so I rarely had my period. If I wasn't doing anything in winter then I would get period. As an adult after pregnancies, breastfeeding, and the Mirena IUD I haven't had a period in 10 years. I plan never to have one again if I can help it.
My dd is 7 but I plan to put her in pill as soon as she gets her period so she will never have her period during camp, if she is on swim team, still in elementary school, etc. No discussion or agonizing about pads vs. tampons. Getting your a period is such a pain and it isn't needed. I can't possibly be the only mom who thinks like this, yet I rarely hear anyone do this. |
| Let me get the popcorn. |
| I agree with you. |
| That sounds very unhealthy. |
| Normal, natural body hormone cycles are clearly stupid and useless. Drugs should always be used to cut off this stupidity - ASAP ! |
| An OB/GYN once told me there was really no reason to have periods if you don't need to. If you take the pill continuously, the uterine lining simply stays thin with no need to shed. |
If it weren’t needed, the human race would be extinct.

| The extra estrogen may impact her physical development (increased breast size). |
OP here- this is what an OB/Gyn told me too. |
I have two kids and have barely had periods. I had no trouble conceiving 2 kids after having been on pill from age 17 to 34 and having maybe 10 periods at most instead of having over 200. |
| I would never give my child the pill without real medical need- there are rare but catastrophic, life-altering or even lethal side effects like blood clots and stroke possible. My friend’s college roommate went from professional athlete to permanently disabled after suffering a stroke her doctors said was triggered by the pill. There’s also emerging research that hormonal contraceptives increase the risk of depression in teens- a large Danish study if you want to look it up. The inconvenience and cramps of periods are pretty easily manageable for most girls and women with some simple strategies- I would absolutely try that first before giving my kid a medication that could kill her. |
| I knew an 18-year old who died of a pulmonary embolism because of birth control pills. Hard to get past that. |

I bleed like a stuck pig. I have two-three days where I have to change a tampon every hour and a half to two hours. My daughter on the other hand, told me (after two and a half years of having her period) that she doesn't even wear a tampon at night.
When I go to work I take a makeup case filled with a dozen tampons (two different sizes) and four liners to catch any accidental overflow. When DD goes to school she takes one MAYBE two tampons. So no, she doesn't need to avoid her period. |
Has your doctor checked you for fibroids? |

I never took BC pills because they made me sick each time my OB.GYN tried to put me on it. I always heard that BC pills resulted in infertility + I did not want to mess with hormones if I can.
But it seems I may have thought wrong. According to this article, long term BC pills do not impact with fertility. https://naturalwomanhood.org/pill-cause-infertility-yes-no/ |
