Question for bakers

is it enough to have a baking stone in the oven when baking bread, or does the dough actually have to be placed on the stone? TIA.

You bake ON the stone silly! The idea is that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the the item you are baking. A few tips (since it sounds like you've never used one) --

1. Heat the stone in the oven before using it (during pre-heating time is good)
2. Never use soap to clean it -- just scrape it off and/or use hot water

Thanks. I thought it had something to do with the humidity in the oven....
