| is it enough to have a baking stone in the oven when baking bread, or does the dough actually have to be placed on the stone? TIA. |

You bake ON the stone silly! The idea is that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the the item you are baking. A few tips (since it sounds like you've never used one) --
1. Heat the stone in the oven before using it (during pre-heating time is good) 2. Never use soap to clean it -- just scrape it off and/or use hot water Happy baking! |
