Freeezing cooked noodles?

Can I freeze cooked penne in tomato sauce and have the texture be right when I reheat them? I've never frozen cooked noodles before but I made too much and already mixed in the sauce. TIA.

You cannot freeze cooked noodles. They will turn to mush.

OK, thanks.

Not sure but they may be a bit softer when you reheat them. But the frozen pasta dishes at the store (spaghetti, lasagna) seem to be ok after heating them up in the microwave.

Actually, I froze lasagna noodles b/c I made too musch just the other week and defrosted them last weekend.

You just have to make sure you wrap them tightly in freezer-proof bags/container. It really does make a difference. You can't skimp on just using alum. foil or saran wrap. Otherwise, the taste and texture won't quite be the same.

I used to freeze cooked pasta all of the time when my DC were younger (I'd cook a pound an have it on hand). Just make it somewhat al dente and it will be fine. I used to freeze in a ziploc with no problem.

i do it all the time. nothing tastes as good as the 15-20 minutes after its done being cooked, but i think it'll hold up well enough that the convenience is worth it.
