We are looking into buying a new car and considering replacing our Honda Oddesey. DH likes BMWs and I’m surprised you can getbhem for a price that’s not crazy expensive (compared to other vehicles.
Which brand holds its value better and which will last longer? |
Don't think you could afford a BMW judging by the way you ask the question. Buy Honda. |
Used BMW’s are a dime a dozen and you can get them super cheap on Craigslist. Honda’s are a different story, hold value much better and you can resell them almost instantly. Everyone knows Honda’s and Toyota’s are the best used vehicle. |
You don’t buy BMWs because they hold value. If holding value is important then get Honda |
Thanks. We have one of each and considering getting a newer version of one of them. I will admit that the driving experience of a BMW is really enjoyable, but the Odyssey is far more functional for the family and provides serious leg room. I'm ok with one of each (one for trips and hauling cargo, carpooling), and one for easier parking around town. But, at the end of the day, maybe our sedan of choice really should be an Accord...
Why don't BMWs hold their value better? |
Because they have a horrible record for reliability. |
BMW is not known as a reliable car. |
This is too kind. They generally are known as PsOS. |
Got it. Don’t get why my DH likes them so much then. He said he likes the feel of how they drive, but I’ve aleaya been the more practical one... Appreciate all the input. |
There's a reason people translate BMW to Break My Wallet. |
Honda (or Toyota) all the way.
I drive my cars to around 140k-160k miles. Still reliable, but there's still some resale left in them and by that point I'm ready for the newest technology, safety, gas mileage, etc. |
BMW is great to drive, but money coming out of my wallet and my time for repair is getting old and annoying.
|
We have one fun German car and one reliable Japanese car too |
Living in DC for several decades has sucked the fun out of driving for me. There would literally be no difference in the speed of any of my driving if I had a Geo Metro.
My car has become an appliance. Give me the Honda. |
Having owned both a Honda Accord and BMW 325xi:
The BMW is much nicer to drive. It has decidedly European handling and has a lot of grip. You feel the road. The Honda drives like the steering column is attached to the wheel with bubble gum. There’s no comparison. I miss my BMW, but I’ve spent a grand total of maybe $1,000 on the Honda in 4 years. I’d spend that on a visit with the BMW. |
