| what do you pay for car insurance? i pay $900 a year to cover a 5 year old car that was about $40K when new. Live in DC, middle aged and no history of accidents. too high? |

In MD, our cars are 7 and 8 years old, both of us have clean driving records (no tickets, no accidents), used to be $120 a month, just went up to $150. I called to find out why, USAA said MD raised the rates and to call the MD Dept of Insurance (who knew there was such a thing?!?!). MD Dept of Insurance said they raise the rates to cover their claims, and implied that because of so many accidents because of distracted drivers, insurance rates are going up everywhere
Sure wish they'd figure out a way to jam the phones while people were driving (with google maps still working of course!). |
| Over $1800 a year; been in an accident every year since 2012 |
|
$964 annually for two vehicles (2009 Rav4 and 2017 CRV). Two adult drivers (no teen drivers yet).
No accidents that were our fault. We live in VA. OP -- you can't compare insurance rates across state lines b/c the rates are based on the laws in each state. DC has "no fault" traffic laws, so insurance is going to be a lot higher there than in VA. Not sure what the laws are in Md. You can only compare to others in DC. |
| Also depends on what the terms of your coverage are. Do you have full replacement on collision? What is your deductible? Those things can add to the cost. |

DC is entirely urban and has no rural areas to offset the higher costs of the urban part. So, it is always going to be one of the higher priced "states" when compared to other states. |
| It also depends on your zip code. If you live in a poor neignborhood, you'll be paying a lot more. Thanks Geico! |
