Travel Discussion
| I will be travelling to Sydney with my 2.5 year old this week. Can you please recommend some light weight toys/activities/books to keep him entertained on this extremely long flight? thank you |

| Aquadoodle. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, he might be able to play games on it. toy cars and a matchbox thing that folds up small but unfolds that he can roll the cars on. |
| Also - if you have an iPhone/iPod, load up some kids shows like Caillou, etc. |
| Also, check out the website of the airline you are flying--they may have giveaways for kids like sticker books. |

Paperback books -- I usually get a bunch from the library before a long trip like that. Also a good source for DVDs.
His own pad of paper to draw/write on and some markers. (Lots of wipes for purple fingers, but the markers are probalby a special treat.) Maybe a few (quiet) new matchbox cars to zoom on his seat. Or bring some toy tools -- DS might enjoy "fixing" your seat for a while. Can you even get those on a plane these days, tho? Lots of good snacks, too, for when the quiet time activities are just too boring for him. |

If you are flying with Qantas you don't need the DVD player. They have excellent in-flight entertainment, with individual TVs, that kept my 3.5 yr. old daughter entertained for hours. United does not have individual TVs so bring a DVD player if you are flying with them. All the other suggestions are also good--loads of stickers, crayons, paper dolls, maybe a lace 'n trace or a magnetic puzzle or dress up doll (MElissa and Doug). Also, I brought our daughter's blanket for her to sleep with--but she was big enough to roll her own little bag so I didn't feel too burdened.
Hopefully your little one will sleep for a bit and you can get some rest too. In our case, thinking about the journey was WAY worse than the actual trip. Everyone was really helpful and nice. |
