| If Affirmative Action falls, I wouldn't be surprised if every 'top' school went test optional in order to better control their class make-up. |
| California school systems never went that rout. Even CalTech refused. They simply followed the law. |
what does test optional got to do with following (or not following) the law? |
indeed and did it hurt the UC school's or CalTech's reputation that they let in so many Asians with high test scores? Nope. So if they get rid of test scores, what academic merit do they look at ... grades? They'd have to also look at what HS you went to because not all A's are are created equal, and I'm guessing that a lot of the students at rigorous HS who get straight As are.... Asian American. Next, they'll make GPAs optional. |
There's a difference between following the law and using the law as a pretext to keep a group of people down. No matter how much you might dislike a certain group, e.g., Jews, merit will naturally rise to the top. No matter what stumbling blocks the haters will place in front of the deserving people, merit has a way of finding its way up. |
| They don't have to. They can focus on low SES, first generation and zipcode recruitment to hit their diversity targets. The folks who will hurt bad will be upper middle class and immigrant blacks and Hispanics, because now they are riding the gravy train. |
|
Test scores have lead the top school down that path of less innovative and less impressive alum. So yes they need to find another way to find the best and the brightest.
They need people that cure cancer, win noble prizes, change the world, become world leaders. They don't need more doctors and bankers. |
They don't need more doctors??
|

Going test optional will not protect them from a lawsuit, if they secretly discriminate to fill their diversity needs. Discovery will still show that one race is deliberately getting better scores than another.
I am surprised, they don't go to zipcode based recruitment and give massive priority to certain zipcodes with minorities. The only reason they don't is because they really don't want these kinds of dirt poor URM's. They want the relatively rich and upwardly mobile URM's. That strategy will now be jeopardized |
Have you looked at the list of Intel Science winners over the past few years? HINT: mostly Asian sounding names. It's the frat boy, legacy with money types that go into banking and wall st. And agree with a PP... we don't need more doctors? We have to use H1B visas to get doctors to work in rural America because not enough doctors want to practice there. Most people have to wait several weeks/months to see a doctor because of a shortage of them. |
AI will take care of quite a bit of it. |
| Many schools outside top-10 value Asian students. They are less likely to exclude or drive them away. |
Schools outside of the top 10 definitely still cap Asian enrollment. |
Not in their interest to do so if they valueo high-achieving, high-stats students. |
They have? |
