We applied to a preschool (Overlee) that only offers a 2-hour, 2-day/week class for children between ages 2 and 3. Is this even worth it? After snack and playground time, it doesn't seem like there is much to it. Also, it seems like mom has to turn around and pick up soon after drop off. How long is the appropriate class length for 2-3 year-olds?

well, your child might find it fun anyway just to spend some time with other kids. from a parent perspective, doesn't give you much off-time. most preschools i looked at offered three-hour part-time programs (either 2, 3 or 5 days a week). |
Preschool for my daughter lasted 2 1/2 hours twice a week at that age. It's worth it if you're not commuting a long distance. |
The time frame seems a bit shorter than most of the other Arlington part-time pre-school programs, although the additional hour at most of the other schools involves the children sitting and eating lunch together. |
If this will be your child's first time being in a group setting, away from mom or a caregiver, I think it's definitely worth it. There's a lot of learning going on - even at snack time. How to sit together and cooperate and share and take turns. Plus kids eat better in a group setting - at least my kid does. You can think of it as getting your child ready for preschool - which more traditionally start at age 3 or 4 years old. |
The preschool my DS went to was great, 2, 3 or 4 days a week, hours were 10-2. It was in Alexandria at First Baptist on King St. |
