Using your health insurance for therapist, psychiatrist, meds for anxiety?

Anonymous
Are there any real risks using our health insurance to help pay for visits to a psychologist, psychiatrist and for medication for anxiety? I've seen some things on the web that suggest that it's best to avoid doing so, but is that just being paranoid?

No. Time to end stigmas.

Why would you not use your health insurance?
I have anxiety and OCD and have always used insurance, It has had no adverse affects on me at work or in adopting a child.

Not really any risk to it b/c you likely won't find anyone who will take your insurance anyway.

Not OP, bit risks I’ve seen mentioned are that it will be an obstacle to getting life insurance later on.

It's an obstacle no matter what. You have to disclose health conditions. If you lie about it and they find out when you try to collect, they won't pay. So lying isn't worth the risk.

That is why many would forego treatment or pay cash for treatment. I know a few women who paid for BRAC-1 test with cash and under a fake name.

If they need meds for anxiety using a fake name and cash for treatment won’t work.
