What commonly known thing did you learn at an embarrassingly older age?

This is curious phrasing. Are you saying that many people in other countries have a daily BM in the morning and have told you this?

I learned in my late 40s that I had been tying my shoes the wrong way my entire life. Learned it from a TEDtalk.

That doesn’t make any sense at all. There’s nothing the least bit suggestive in the lyrics. Somebody’s either pulling your leg, or that song happened to be playing in the background when they lost their virginity or something like that.

Different poster here, but yes. Where I grew up (with primarily vegetarian / medeterian diet type), no-one would use office bathroom for BM (it would happen really rarely). Most people would have it regularly in the morning at home, before heading to work.

That’s a really odd thing to know about your coworkers!

I learned this in college. Extremely embarrassing.

I'm fifty and just learned this right now. None of my middle class / lower middle class family and friends did this

Isn’t this just done when one is hosting a party?

No. When someone invites us over, we take a bottle of wine, a six pack of beer, some cookies, whatever. My DD has a friend who brings over a snack every time they have a playdate, I think it's great of her parents to teach her such good manners at an early age, we've started doing it too - either a snack or a craft.

I grew up solidly middle class and our family friends were of a varied socioeconomic group, this was always the case. I grew up in the midwest, so perhaps that's why. In my opinion, people are more polite, generous, and mindful of others in the Midwest.

Yes--I'm the one who suggested upthread that hostess gifts have nothing to do with class but with region. I grew up in a small town, not "fancy," and was taught you always bring something with you when you go to someone's house. It doesn't have to be expensive, it can just be something simple like a little plant, or pretty flowers from your garden, or something you made (jam, cookies, etc.)

I don’t know about the schedules but in my new office I am surprised how many people use multi stall bathroom for #2! It’s like they wait to get to work to do it! No courtesy flush either. Gross!

Different poster here, but yes. Where I grew up (with primarily vegetarian/Mediterranean diet type), no-one would use office bathroom for BM (it would happen really rarely). Most people would have it regularly in the morning at home, before heading to work.

First poster here. It was the same where I grew up, though our diet was mainly fish and rice based. It was rare if someone used the office bathroom for BM (except for sickness or some other emergency). For most people, it was part of the daily morning routine, same as brushing your teeth and taking a shower, before starting your day.

I had also never heard of the various stomach ailments that seems to be fairly common here - Crohn's, IBS, Diverticulitis. Maybe there is some cause and effect? It seems reasonable to think that if you have poop in your colon for a long time, there is a chance that it will rot and cause problems and even smelly gas. The below would give me nightmares -

DP here. I figured it out because a whole bunch of female coworkers would routinely hit the office bathrooms after lunch. Every. Single. Day. From noon to 2 pm, these women would stink up the whole place! Also, they were very gassy and smelly women too.

Other than providing your personal entertainment, I'm not sure there's a real difference in health or regularity between regularly going in the morning or afternoon.

I think it was Louis XIV or XV whose schedule was to get up and sit on the commode first thing every day. With courtiers hanging around. And no coffee!

The whole bowel movement posts are absurd. People poop at different times all over the world. Many counties have no public bathrooms and otherwise bad bathrooms. Here in USA, we can comfortably poop nearly any time of day. So why not?

That husband is an idiot.

I am 43.
A couple years ago my friend mentioned 4/20 and lo and behold - I had no idea what it was!

This is odd. I am very regular and go every day. But my regular time is 11am, so that means I go at work. Doesn’t everyone just have their own regular time, and there’s nothing you can do about it?
