What kind of gas is best for a Lexis RX350?

Anonymous
I just got the car - a lease - but I am so in love with it that I might want to buy int when the lease is up. I always used premium in my old 1993 BMW - and it is still running fairly well.

So, knowing I might want to keep this car, should I splurge for the premium gas?

Thanks!

You are LEASING the car!

The most INEXPENSIVE gas possible.

Are you quite young?

Read the owner’s manual?

Mechanic here.

Read the manual, but I bet it takes premium.

If the manual calls for premium, never use lower grade gas if you are paying for it (assuming normal gas prices). Nothing bad will happen, but the ECU will retard the engine timing to prevent predetonation (knocking). That will drop both power and fuel efficiency. You'll lose more fuel efficiency than you gain in the price difference of regular vs premium.

On the flip side, never use higher grade gas than is called for. The higher the octane, the lower the energy in the gasoline, so higher octane gas also causes slightly lower fuel efficiency.

It takes regular. That was the reason why we bought it. It’s the same Toyota engine as the Camry, Avalon, and highlander.

I have a 2015. The dealer said 87 gas and the guidelines for all models >2012 say 87. You don't need premium gas in that car. I had a 2005 and was told to use 93 gas.
