tween clothes size

Hello moms

I want to purchase and send clothes overseas for a soon to be 12 year old. She is about 4'10 and skinny/medium.
Will size 12 clothes from children's stores (Gymboree for example) fit her? I am planning on buying cotton and stretchy clothes.
Thank you for the help

Gymboree will not be cool for a 12 yr old. Even though they have sizes for older kids their designs are more for younger kids. Go to Old Navy or Gap or Macy's or Justice.

Target has nice and fashionable clothes too. Art class is a line my daughter likes.

12 should be OK for her. Gymboree are fairly generous in sizing. Gap jeans have no butt/hips, but if she is slim, that's probably OK. some Gymbo clothes are fine for 12 -- especially the ones where they are trying to rip off Boden styles. 140 in Hannah Andersson would work too, though some of these styles can also feel too young. Tea is funky but a little pricey (some decent sales though -- they are having 25% off sale prices now). Crazy 8, ON are good too. Anything designer can have weird sizing (usually run small).

Gymboree and Hannah Anderson, while having correct sizing, are really young styles. 12 year olds are in middle school. Your better bet would target, Old Navy, Kohl’s, Justice, Dicks, JCPenny type stores. They all have sections with 7-16 sizing and then juniors (Justice goes up to size 18-20 in stores and 24 online).

My 11yo is about that height, and she wears a 14/XL in Gap and Old Navy. She’s average weight, but broad through the shoulders and chest. But I’d suggest erring on the size of larger, so your recipient can grow into things.

Style-wise, mine likes Kohl’s, Target, and some Gap and sporty Athleta Girl things. Nothing at Gymboree would fit her now, and she outgrew their styles a long time ago. Very ruffle- and bow-heavy.

She really loves the super-stretchy “ballerina“ skinny jeans from Old Navy, which have elastic tabs inside the waist to make them adjustable. They’re pretty forgiving, size-wise, because they’re so stretchy.

No Gymboree or Hanna Andersson.

My kid that size can wear a ladies XS also, which gives some broader options.

Try H&M too, but go for size 12-14. They run skinny. If you get some clothes that are too big, at least she can grow into them. If they are too small, she's out of luck.
