Gang hysteria

Anonymous
How many posters have started the recent MS13 threads? All the same poster?

The article in Wapo paints a horrible picture of a moco middle school, OP: beatings that send victims to the ER and a rape of a middle schooler that the victim was too afraid to report to the police.

I can’t answer your question but I believe it’s essential the safety of these poor kids that parents outside that school place pressure on the police and school system.

I'm not the OP of any of the threads. But it's not hysteria. Responsible adults acknowledge problems and work to find solutions. They don't pretend gangs don't exist.

Let me get this straight. People expressing concern over rapes in the school bathroom, stabbings just outside the school, kids dropping out because they are so afraid, kids receiving messages in the middle of the night that they're going to get their tongue chopped off, students needing to be assigned a 1:1 security guard so they don't get jumped in the halls or in classes, teachers scared to come to school is considered HYSTERIA? Wow. Shame on you.

I didn't notice if the threads were started by the same poster but I suspect not. The topic presses a lot of different buttons so lots of threads isn't a surprise.

Multiple threads started in 24 hours is hysterical. Or propaganda.

There was just an article about it in the Post. I'm sure people just start threads without waiting to see if one was already posted.

You sure do have a hysteria/propaganda hair trigger.

And you don't after the last 2+ years of anti-immigration propaganda?

No, that is when WaPo published their very striking piece, so naturally people will react to it in various forums, without checking to see if someone has already posted something.

It is rather disturbing that you want to downplay something so terrible that is happening to young teens in our area. Makes you look unfeeling and disconnected from reality. Would you want YOUR child to suffer like this? Do you even have children? Are you unconcerned because the victims are not wealthy and Hispanic?

Lots to unpack here, and none of it looks good.

I think the poster claiming "hysteria" and refusing to believe there are gangs in our schools is terrified. And it's understandable. No one want their kids to be in school with violent gang members. However, hiding your head in the sand won't make it better. Information is power. The more we know and understand about gangs in our schools, the better equipped we are to protect ALL of our children. Sometimes I think parents (and I include myself) with kids at schools that are considered safer, can't handle the reality that maybe ....just maybe....gang members don't care about school attendance zones. They are going to recruit wherever they can. They are going to sell drugs in wealthier areas because that's where the money is. It's tempting to pretend that it doesn't happen in safer communities. But you are fooling yourself. There are gangs in MOCO. There are gangs in DC. There are gangs in ACPS. There are gangs in Fairfax. Hell, there are gangs all the way down in Stafford. They are in our middle schools because they want to recruit while kids are young. It's scary. But sometimes we have to face scary things.

Actually no, I don't.

They should be hysterical. Are the gang members here legally illegally? Is it a new phenomenon at these schools?

That is entirely my point. Let's work to fix the problem by using facts instead of lies and hysteria.

On another thread, I have asked several times for more facts, but other PPs call that disgusting.

These threads are really just breeding grounds for anti-immigrant hatred. Not solving any problems.

What difference does it make if the gang members are here legally or illegally? They're still gang members. Are they good gang members if they're here legally? Are you implying that all gang members are immigrants? This is why OP is suspicious of these threads, and rightly so. They are anti-immigrant breeding grounds.

You are not going about it the right way. Posting a title accusing people of "hysteria" just because you are afraid of anti-immigrant posters is self-sabotage. I mistook you for one of them. Choose your words carefully next time.
