I’ve always had terrible blackheads. I’ve been experimenting- changing make up, wearing no makeup, changed to oil cleansing method, Clay masks etc. but never can seem to get rid of blackheads.
Anyone have something that works? |
| Facials. You need to get what you have extracted and then start a routine of daily saycilic acid use to help keep your pores clear. |
| Are they really blackheads or sebaceous filaments |
| Retinol |
I would agree with starting with this. Acid doesn't have to be salicylic. Can be a range of AHA and BHA acids. |
Any products you recommend? |
|
OP, I concur with the previous posters. My preferred AHA/BHA blend in Biologique Recherche P50, but there are cheaper options. P50 is used as a toner while others come in gel or cream format. Paula's Choice has a very well liked BHA product that was recently on sale for $19. These products help break up the gunk in the pores and it will come out over time, as you cells turnover. Please give any product 4-5 weeks to work since that is the typical timeline for cell turnover in an adult.
Also, agree that a few facials helped me get the gunk out and the P50 helped me keep the pores clear. I went to Jenny Luu Skincare in case you are in DC and want a recommendation. Thier "Simply Clean" facials run about $125. Finally, retinol will help with cell turnover happen faster. If you have not used retinol before I would start very slow. Most people are very sensitive to it and it can cause a lot of irritation and breakouts while you pores initially clear. I would try the above options first and then get a prescription for Tretinoin and start out using it very sparingly, like 1 or 2x a month on cleansed DRY skin. |
Where do you get your Biologique and how much does it cost? |
| Biggest difference I've ever seen is when I started using a chemical exfoliator regularly. I use a fruit acid a 2x/week and within a few weeks I was so happy with the results! Now I'm several years into this routine and my skin is so clear and soft. Great for anti-aging long-term, too. |
I like the Biologique Recherche P50 that the poster above mentioned. I think it's about 100 dollars a bottle, but it lasts a really long time. I buy from Rescue spa online. I don't use a pad that might waste product, I put it directly onto my hands and pat on face. I also kinda hate that I like this because it is expensive as well and I think there are other options that are cheaper, but I like Drunk Elephant Framboos as well. I also sometimes use DHC lactic serum which is great for overall brightness and I think helps with pores as well. I hear very good things about Paula's choice acids as well, but haven't tried them myself. They're reasonably priced. |
| I second Paula’s choice BHA 2% liquid. It will forever be my go to for exfoliating. I also have large pores and blackheads and this helps a lot. |
I use that, and sometimes the 4% treatment. Not irritating, definitely keeps blackheads in check. AHA irritates my skin. I read somewhere that BHA is generally better for skin that's more oily, and AHA is better for skin that tends to be more dry. But in any case, different people react differently, so it's worth trying a sample before investing in a big bottle of anything. |
I googled that and saw some pretty nasty videos! I did not realize those were different than blackheads or whiteheads. I thought they were the same thing. Stomach churning and educational at the same time |
| usually when products tout BHAs they're talking about salicylic acid. in case you thought it was something special. |
Oh god, was it Dr Pimple Popper? I refuse to watch those. I can pop my own zits all day (even though I know better), but watching videos of someone else lancing cysts makes me nauseous. |
