What is going on with DC's playgrounds?

Is it me or all the NW DC playgrounds are looking terrible lately? Trash, weeds that look like heads of lettuce, ripped rubber floor surfaces...what is going on with DPR? I have a 7 year old and this is the first time I have seen playgrounds looking this bad.

I think it's DGS and not DPR that's actually responsible for playground maintenance. For major safety hazard stuff, tweet photo and location to DPR, DGS, and 311

Who the F. cares which bureaucratic alphabet- soup agency is responsible? Bowser is responsible. Yet she is cruising to real action displayed all sorts of scandals and they declined of services on her watch. It’s baffling that as long as she feels that DC is slightly better than the Barry era 1980s, everything is fine.

I never saw a dead body but condoms and needles werr not unusual and broken glass was *everywhere.* one major change thanks to the phasing in of plastic bottles is that broken glass has largely disappeared.

Also the metal pull tops that you used to pull off soda and beer cans and leave lying around as litter are gone too.

I report everything on the DC311 app. It's so awesome and the city is actually pretty responsive, plus you get updates on the issues your report.

It's really a game changer in terms of getting the city to reply. They changed our burnt out street light within three days of reporting. Hauled away abandoned furniture in the alley. Replaced broken traffic calming pylons within a couple days. Fixed a damaged sidewalk within two weeks.

Walter Pierce playground doesn't have any of these issues. I haven't been on other playgrounds so I can't speak to those.

Maybe not, but it does have rats and ticks.

turtle park apparently has raw sewage seeping up from the ground, so that's pretty nasty! I think they don't use great contractors for renovating and maintaining the playgrounds. There's a park near me that DPR folks continually drive through, leaving tire tracks through the grass and often backing into a raised water pipe that then breaks and floods the park (requiring shutoff of water for weeks until it's fixed) because they're too lazy to carry the trash bags to the truck instead of driving the truck to the trash can.

Our neighborhood playground would be in better shape if DPR closed it on time, rather than let it open until 10 pm for adults to drink booze, smoke weed, and brawl.

They are now calling it Turd-le Park.

Meanwhile Bowser romps to re-election without serious opposition. DC has settled again into rather low expectations.
