The police gang unit has not come to the school all year long?!!

Police have been called 74 times to the school, since May 1st. Everyone is aware of the problem but honestly, not much they can do. It’s a school with a population of 72 perecent and I’m sure low income is high as well. This is a school no one in pg county will care about.

The willful ignorance by the principal is flabbergasting. Is that how you get ahead in PGCPS? Just pretend nothing bad is happening?

This is awful. Some of the families at our elementary school are zoned for Wirt and I can't imagine having to send my child there.

I'm also concerned about what they said about Parkdale. I was hoping that with the IB program it was a high school on the up swing but a gang issue could derail all of that.

I really hope that PGCPS holds off on the initiative to move Grade 6 to middle schools until this improves. Our 6th graders need to stay in Elementary School settings as long as possible if our MS experience problems like this. I'd rather have overcrowded elementary schools than have 12 year olds dealing with gang violence at school.

Also, the school is horribly overcrowded which makes a bad situation worse. The State Rated Capacity is 850 and they have ~1200 now.

When I showed a coworker, his first reaction was that an ICE raid will be ordered. I feel bad for the hundreds of innocent kids who will be caught up in it, but the gang members have got to go.

This is horrific. I cannot imagine having to send my kid there (she went to a DCC MCPS school with some gang activity that I knew about, but nothing like this).

I worry that this is only fodder for arresting immigrants, though. Obviously, we have to figure out a way to arrest and deport those in MS-13. But so many come here to escape the violence in their home countries only to be confronted by MS-13's savagery and are only hoping for a better life.

I agree. They need to focus on the gang members (some of whom may actually be legal, an ICE raid alone would not touch them).

A great example of poor pathetic weak school administration, city and state governments. Very sad... This is something that should be taken seriously and delt with swiftly and with a heavy hand immediately.. especially in this day and age with all that's been happening around the country and world involing gun violence... This just adds to that..

The families of these "gang" members should be ashamed. And should be held fully responsible and should be punished right along side their scary tough gang kids/family.. looks like the community better become more pro active ... I'd say all the government and school officials need to be fired...and don't say the public or community can't make that happen.. thats just a lazy uneducated excuse not to take action..

Not sure why you put quotes around gang..... what are you insinuating?

And I am very sure that many of the families are ashamed, as well as heartbroken, fearful and overwhelmed. I can't even imagine. No mother looks at her newborn son and thinks "I hope he joins a brutal, violent gang when he is a teenager".

You get what you are willing to tolerate. No way would I send my kid to any school with significant gang activity. It won't change until we start tossing every single undocumented person who commits a crime out of the country. If it's a minor, the whole family goes.

And before you say it, I'm a liberal Dem who despises trump. And who supports DACA. If you are in the US undocumented, I want to help you. If you commit a crime, you get shipped out immediately.

The quicker public schools are destroyed by liberals the better. People need to go private. In order to afford to go private they need to stay married. Kids get educated and adults get wealthier.
