| We've had two credit cards hacked in the last week or so. These are credit cards that we hadn't used for awhile - 6 months to a year or more. What gives? |
| Someone bought a database with your numbers or a stack of ready cards. |
| Our card was hacked a couple of weeks ago. They ran about 6 transactions purchasing from a shoe store and then got so greedy and attempted to pay more than $1,600 to Macy's. At that point our bank caught the transaction as suspicious and sent us a text message asking to verify that it's ours. |
So it sounds like we should be on the lookout for charges on our other cards then? Sigh.... |
| Sorry that happened, OP. First PP's database explanation sounds right. |
| We just did too. This or fourth time in as many years. We now have text alerts set up for every purchase on every card. |
Who cares? It's the bank's money, not yours. |
I guess you like those deep conversations with your bank when your card is stolen, discussing every charge. So sweet. |
Every time this happens (about once a year for me), it takes a few hours of my time. I have to go onto each website where my credit card is set up, and update to my new card number. It's huge pain in the rear and also a waste of time. I then inadvertnetly forget some that are not frequently charged, like SiriusXM radio (they charge every 6 months). |
Exactly this. It's just easier to nip it in the bud right when it happens. |
