Girls Lax varsity team - what’s the time commitment like?

Suppose my DD made a very competitive varsity team, how much time should she expect to spend on practices and games? How far and often would she need to travel for games and tournaments? Thank you for sharing any information or experiences.

On a varsity high school team or on a club team?

The HS girls lax varsity team at our school practices 2-3 hours a day in season, has games a few times a week and some weekend obligations (tournaments, travel), and kids often spend additional time outside of practice practicing or in the weight room.

I was asking about HS team. That sounds like a lot of work according to the prior post. Does your kid have other EC’s?

My kid's high school sports program requires 2 hrs practice every weekday Mon-Fri throughout season. Most games are on a weekday. HS lax can vary by school but this was my kid's lax schedule. She played travel soccer at the same time.

Thank you!

Mine played varsity this spring at a strong local private and they practiced until almost 6pm every day. Games were often during the week but several were on weekends and could be as far away as Annapolis. They also had a spring break trip that went up to PA and then to FL - I believe it was optional but all girls went. It's a lot of time but if you're a girl who loves lacrosse it doesn't seem like a grind. We actually felt like it was less stressful than middle school where she played on her school team (daily practices and about 12 games), and then also had her club team practices and spring season - that got a little crazy.

This is spot on. High school lax was a huge relief after the pressures of club and school lax in the elementary (club only) and middle school years. A big part of it is that your girl will have her weekends back. So while there is a lot of pressure during the week to keep up with classes, especially if your girl is at a high pressure school, she actually ends up having a little more free time because the weekends are so much easier.
