Anyone know how kid hit by car near Deal a few weeks ago is doing?

He was hit on Nebraska during school drop off and left in an ambulance. There have been a ton of accidents at that crazy intersection of Nebraska/Davenport/Fort Drive. Drivers are constantly speeding, texting, turning, honking, running the light, dropping kids off anywhere and everywhere, blocking traffic, etc. There only two crossing guards to oversee five crosswalks, not to mention a blind spot because there's a hill at that part of Nebraska. The whole clusterf--- needs to be redesigned.

This is news to me and I got the city to re-work that intersection and add pedestrian crossing signals which didn't used to be there.

Was he crossing against the light?

The traffic zooming down Nebraska and Reno is getting more dangerous by the day and is at odds with the walkability aims of the city. Major traffic calming needs to be put in place.
Hope the student is ok.

The traffic is a problem though it is usually congested around drop off time so some details will better illuminate if there are opportunities for better design or enforcement.

But all of the crosswalks on Nebraska there are signalized so someone crossed against the light if that is where it happened.

News to me and I work at Deal! Principal Neal usually lets us know about any such issues that may impact Deal or Wilson.

Those crossing signals have been broken for much of the year (and yes we told the city).

I am not surprised. I have seen kids getting out when the light was red before. But drivers are not expecting a kid to jump out of a car when they are making a turn - they do not have visibility to it.

People are so self-focused in school drop offs - and not only at Deal. We do not drop off at that intersection b/c drivers do such stupid things. The area marked no stopping is not saved so you can stop and drop off your child. It is marked that way so everyone - drivers and pedestrians are safe.

Parents also reverse in the parking strip outside the door rather than go around the loop and double park so no one can get past, even worse double park next to crossing so cars trying to get around can't see if children crossing. Getting in and out of Deal is crazy some days, hence why drivers drop off elsewhere, but no excuse everyone is in a hurry!

I was there and I heard it but didn't see it. I think he was let out right there. But why hasn't the school sent anything out about this?
