The thread on team deposits leaves me wondering what happens when you change your mind.

Assuming you notify the coach early on, before summer practices have even started, will the club hold you to the contract?

They will keep your deposit money but will otherwise release you.

Ours is clear that once you make a payment, that will not be refunded if you change your mind.

I’m the OP and I assumed the deposit wasn’t refundable. I’m wondering about the remaining fees for the year.

Some clubs (mine included) require you to complete the full year payment in order to have your player's card released. I am not sure if there is a caveat if you cancel before the season has even started, and there is fine print surrounding player injuries but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Well, you simply cancel the payment and the roster spot must be held and can count against the team in regards to tourneys and State Cup. The club will give in and release the player.

It is just better to release the player.
