Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
If you've been there, what is it like?
We had a lovely dinner there one night this summer with the 2 kids. The food was really good, service good and we sat outside which was nice and allowed us to watch the kids as they played on the nearby steps and fountain. I didn't really see the inside so cannot speak to that. Anyway, it was quite nice, not cheap, but won't break the bank either.
I liked it. PP gave a good description, but I would NOT say it's a kid friendly place. (Thanks, pp for eating with your kids outside). Food is great, a bit pricy though, and tables are set up Italian bistro style where they are kind of on top of each other and packed in. They used to have a gnocchi that I loved, duck I think, that I would recommend if it's still on the menu.
The food is OK (I've only gone at lunchtime), but nothing special. I had the worst latte ever there though. How hard is it to make a decent cup of coffee?
We went recently and ate outside with our two kids. It's pricey but they have a good early-bird special--three courses for $20 (4-6:30 maybe?) You get a choice of any soup/salad, entree, and any dessert. I had the veggie bisque which was pretty good, and the squash risotto which was super yummy. For dessert we had their homemade gelato which was AWESOME. The kids shared a pizza (kids' menu is good but actually a bit pricey because it's not all-inclusive), which I tried and didn't love...just okay. The service was very good.
It is part of the Chef Geoff's chain... agree that it doesn't seem all that kid-friendly (eg, white tablecloths, tables close together, etc.). Serves pretty much the same food as Chef Geoff's, so if you are driving anyway and are looking for kid-friendly, you may as well just go the extra 2 miles and go the the Chef Geoff's on New Mexico Ave, which I think is a lot more kid-friendly.
Our dinner there last year was mediocre and overpriced.
Just ok and pricey. if it were a little cheaper, I'd be a regular, but the food just solid...not worth the price.

I went for lunch with a friend during restaurant week and thought it was fantastic and couldn't wait to go back.
About a month later, I took my parents, and was disappointed with the food and the service. My mom's pasta with mussels was really fishy and my dad's pizza with wild mushrooms had the saltiest bechamel type sauce but no real flavor. One of our salads never arrived during the appetizer course, and when our entrees arrived, we asked about the salad. The server curtly said "I'll check" and without an apology of any sort, the salad was plopped down next to my entree. I would give Lia's a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. |
