| My daughter seems to love it and it is great for those hurried weeknight dinners. Do you really think it is healthy? |
| NO. |
| no better than good old Kraft |
|
It doesn't have the artificial colors, right? That's better in my book. Also seems to have a little less sodium, a little less sugar, a little less cholesterol, a little more protein...
All in all, not exactly healthy, but maybe a better choice, I think. I was just thinking the other day about what a standby it used to be for us. I sort of miss it now that our kids have graduated on to a more grown-up diet. |
| Basically echoing PP - it may be a little better than Kraft, but that's a far cry from saying it's GOOD. |
| it has less sat fat than regular. But still a lot of fat and not a lot of fiber. But ok once a week MAX |
| I add tuna and vegetables. Still not good, but not horrible in the grand scheme of things. |

ok eating disorder ladies! what makes Annies so so bad. For an active child who doesn't need to lose weight. Be specific.
I am looking at a label on a box right now, so no bullshitting. |
Adding that canned mercury I am sure makes it much more nutritious. |
| OP here. Thanks for the input. I only use it once every 10 days or so but I think I will just start making a healthier version at home and freezing it for later use. |
|
Buy the Annie's whole wheat. Lower in fat, and whole wheat pasta. I'm with prior poster, I want to know what, exactly, on the label makes it so bad.
I mix it with veggies and think it is fine. |
| it is fine once a week or so, like pp said add veggies to it. Homemade is better but at least Annies doesn't contain the preservatives and colors. I think Kraft is nasty |
| Have your kids tried just hot pasta (I like Barilla Plus corkskrews or elbows) with butter and parmigiano reggiano (the real paremsean--it's expensive, but a little goes a long way)? Super fast, tasty, and I find easier than box mac and cheese. To make it healthier, you could also toss in a handful of frozen peas in the last couple of minutes of the boiling pasta. |
| OP here--I just bought whole wheat elbows from whole foods and I plan on making a bunch, freezing in small portions, and then after defrosting adding a touch of butter and some grated parmigiano reggiano like a previous poster recommended. I forgot I used to eat this all the time in grad school and it is very quick and easy to make. |

Annie's has so much less fat because Kraft's instructions call for half a stick of butter!
And what a bunch of snobs a lot of the PPs are. Mac and cheese out of the box is fine once in a while. |
