| Our two preschool options are gan at adis Israel or franklin Montessori. Our kid is 2 and will be full time because we both work. Any thoughts? |
| whichever is more convenient. Seriously. |
|
In the end, I really don't think it matters.
That said, we're close with a principle from a local K-8 private school, and he says that Montessori kids generally come in as well-rounded, confident, whole people. That was enough to tip my decision. Also, this thread is going to be moved to the preschool board so look for it there when it disappears. |
| I would tour both and then decide. See what feels like a good for for your DC. |
| OP here. They are both convenient (my job is between them). My kid is quiet so I think she might like the calm Montessori atmosphere. But the gan seemed more joyful to me. Hard decision! Anyone with insight into the programs? |
| Are you Jewish? The Gan is a lovely place and it is heavy on the Jewish education while Franklin is very secular. Depends on what your preference is. |
| I would want my child to be in the joyful place! |
| We had this same decision and chose the gan because it seemed more joyful and the administration seemed more flexible and have been very happy but I know people like Franklin. |
This was our decision as well. We'll be sending DC to another more joyful place in the fall, rather than a very quiet (language immersion) alternative. DC currently goes to Gan one day a week and we love it there. The teacher is great and DC loves it. |

I've toured both places and they are so different. Franklin is quiet, not a ton of outdoor time, very calm. Teachers are very intentional. Lots of focus on self care.
Adas is noisy, chaotic, fun, and silly. Both are great, but seem quite different. |

Adas, there would be no question for me.
If things were equal, I would choose a developmentally appropriate model over Montessori anyway, but in this case things aren’t equal, you are choosing between a for profit program with limited outdoor space that has lost kids twice, and a program with beautiful facilities, indoor and out, and the reputation for being excellent at providing a high quality Jewish developmentally appropriate program. |
| Adas is primarily a half day preschool (or til 2:30 p.m. for older kids). Franklin is more of a daycare. One is Montessori, one is not. One has a heavy dose of Judaism in the curriculum and community, the other does not. These are not schools I would describe as similar. |
Adas has an all-day program (until 6) and has for a few years now. |
Plus 1 to all of this |
Yes I know that. I said it was primarily a half day program. That means Most kids don’t go full day. |
