Montgomery County Council approves aid for illegals to receive free legal fees to avoid deportation

Can this county get anymore liberal. Looking for the list for those that approved this. If anyone has it, please post.

Joanna Silver is with the Montgomery County Deportation Defense Coalition. She said she was frustrated by the change that created a list of criminal convictions that may exclude, according to CASA of Maryland, 75 percent of those facing deportation from getting assistance. “What’s wrong with that is that it basically means that people who are eligible for getting relief under immigration law — despite having criminal convictions — will no longer get that relief,” Silver said, adding that under the original proposal, immigration court judges would still have had the ability to examine an immigrants’ criminal record and make a decision. The vote left people on both sides of the issue dissatisfied. Supporters of funding the legal aid feel too many people are being cut off under the final version of the measure. At a news conference on Monday, opponents said they did not think any public money should be spent on those who came to the country illegally. |

Are you serious? What was the council’s rationale? This makes no sense. They already committed a crime by coming here illegally. Why are our taxes going towards helping them? I don’t get a free lawyer if I need one and I actually pay taxes. Ugh! |

| I don't know why there isn't more outrage over this. thinking the council quietly approved this knowing it would pass a lot of people off. I hope everyone expresses their feelings about this at the polls. basically every incumbent needs to be voted off. |

1. its not even a felony. 2. The point of immigration court is to determine if they deserve to be to deported. We don't make those judgement before a fair hearing. How can someone without legal representation get a fair hearing? 3. Why cant you get a court appointed lawyer? 4. What makes you think these people don't pay taxes? |
