| My mother would like to take our family- DH, our 6 year old daughter, our five month old daughter, and me to some island on the Caribbean in November. We haven't had the baby yet and I feel like it is crazy to book a trip without even having the fourth member of our family. She would like to rent a condo near the beach and is flexible on which location to go to. She has just retired and asked us to do this trip instead of a retirement party. She is somewhat helpful with my older child but is not interested in making meals/ cleaning. She is also not really a baby person but she can entertain our older daughter quite well. Thoughts? |
| Maybe. I went to key west with a 3 month old. I think I added her as a lap child after she was born. |
|
I wouldn't have done this, but it's her wish for a retirement gift.
Do you have any say about which island it is? I would push for the U.S. Virgin Islands in case the baby gets sick and you need a doctor. Also, just know that you will not be seeing much of the beach... |
| I would not go to the Caribbean during hurricane season. Better safe than sorry, especially with an infant. |
| We took a three-month old to St. Maartens (about 7 years ago). I did make sure the island had good medical care in advance, but that was the only real adjustment we made. All went fine. |
| The Caymans in late November/thanksgiving is great. Beautiful weather. And they have excellent healthcare if you need it. |
| Not if I was just going to dump the kids in a “kids club”, which is how some DCUMs prefer to vacation. |
| We took a three month old to Cuba. |
Please don’t do this. Google photos of Cuban hospitals. It’s very sad. |
| Yes I would. |
| no. one word - zika |
| and chinkungunya for that matter |
| No. Unnecessary. Other warm choices are good enough. Wouldn't just because Mom prefers it. |
Zika's probably in Florida and Texas, too. |
LOL you’re safe from hurricanes in NOV. rain will be plentiful though. |
