Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I am on day 3, just went for my u/s and b/w, and am ready to start clomid tonight. This is for a monitored IUI cycle, clomid with FSH injection & trigger shot. It's my first treatment cycle & I have been waiting since July to get started.
SG has JUST called me and said they don't have my husband's infectious disease bloodwork. His GP faxed over his most recent labwork, and I called SG and specifically asked them to make sure the infectious disease results were included. They said they were, that they had everything they needed, and that DH did not need to go for another blood draw. Now they've suddenly discovered the GP didn't run those labs and we cannot proceed without them. SO, if I cannot get DH to get it drawn TODAY (which I probably can't, as he's in the car with a coworker on his way to a meeting and he can't very well turn around and drive to the lab, and his day is booked solid with meetings), my cycle is cancelled before it even starts. I am in tears. I can't believe they screwed this up. Does anyone know if they would let me do the meds/monitoring and do timed intercourse instead of the IUI? (We do not have male factor; I know TI would not be as good as IUI, but at least it's not a total waste of a cycle.) Or do they require ID bloodwork for partners even if SG is not performing the insemination? I mean, I understand that they can't perform an insem. without making sure the sperm sample is clean, but will they let me do the meds & monitor me and let us try at home? |
| I would call and talk to your doctor today. I also go to SG and my doctor (Widra) always has been very responsive and returned my calls right away. He or she also should know about the mix up with your blood work and may not if you don't tell them. |

funny the exact same thing happened to me. just before my ivf cycle, they told us that the lab had not done all the bloodwork on me. i think one of the blood tests was incomplete. that was because in the blood work form, SG forgot to check all the blood tests that i needed done.
it was very stressful. i rushed from work that eve and got the lab form. went in to labcorp the next morn at an ungodly hour and hoped and prayed that it would fax over the results to shady in time before the start of my cycle. luckily, they sent the blood work on time. i, too, was surprised that SG waited right until the last day to let me know about the blood work. hope it all works out for you. |

Yes, I would call today raise h#ll about the blood work mix up, and ask for another nurse. If you don't get a satisfactory response, call the patient advocate. I know SG expects its patients to put up with this nonsense, but you don't need to.
There is no reason they can't start your cycle and have your DH do his bloodwork tomorrow. Sorry - you shouldn't have to go through this. |

Ok, my poor DH is running over there now, in between meetings, and we are hoping the lab will run it today so the results are back tomorrow.
The nurse at SG said she will just have me start tomorrow, day 4, if she gets the results by then. (She thinks she can.) Is that ok? She assured me it is, but I recall asking my dr. about the difference btw doing clomid days 3-7 versus 5-9 and she had a preference for me doing 3-7 (tho now I forget why). So it seems to me that starting at day 4, while it may be "fine," is not ideal. Here's the other thing - pushing the clomid back by one day doesn't change the timing for my FSH injection or day 11 monitoring. So how would they know if I started it tonight instead of tomorrow? Part of me feels like I should stay on schedule. I know DH's results will be clear so it's not like we are waiting on results that affect medication dosage or timing. But my fear is that if somehow DH's results aren't back in time tomorrow, then tomorrow afternoon they will tell me I'm cancelled and not to take anything. If I have already started the clomid without permission, that would be a problem. |

before starting clomid, i'd first confirm with the lab if they can send over the results from tomm. sometimes, it takes them a couple of days even for the simplest test.

Ok, well, I'm not going to start the clomid unless they tell me to. It's just incredibly frustrating for the holdup to be something like this b/c I know my husband's b/w will be fine.
Why doesn't SG just run these in their own lab so they can control the process and make sure they have the results when they need them?! |

OP again.
Now they are going to let me start today without the test results!! DH did have the blood drawn today, so they know they will have the results before the IUI, so they are letting me start (with the caveat that if the bloodwork did come back with a problem, we would have to stop, but I'm not worried about that). |
| Yay!!! Good luck OP! |
| Great news! Good luck!! |
