Infuriating experience on American

Anonymous
I was on an American Airlines flight where they extended reserved first class bins over whatever their premium economy seats are called, thereby forcing people sitting in the very front of economy to have to put their bags behind them, which made a lot of other travelers have to put their bags further back, creating chaos both during boarding and deplaning.

And then those bins up front didn't even get completely filled!

Sometimes the first or second rows of bins are taken up by safety equipment and/or the crew's carry-ons.

Why would they do that? Did they say?

+1 safety equipment is a no brainer. But crew luggage needs to be gate checked and it always irritates me when it’s not.

I was flabbergasted on the flight, but I know that the crew has no control over the policy (the bin literally had "Reserved for First Class" or something like that written in it). I wrote a complaint to AA when I got home.

I really hate having to fight for bin space and people are really greedy and rude about it. Every seat should have an assigned overhead bin. If your stuff doesn't fit, then you have check it. The end.

I still remember the crazy lady next to me who not only hogged the overhead bin, but also put a bunch of stuff under the seat area I was supposed to use and then tried to convince me she was entitled to it. I practically had to throw her belongings at her so I could put my small bag under the seat.

Yeah. You aren’t entitled to bin space right above your head.

If a steerage passenger put ther stuff in the first class bin above their seat, would the FAs really say something?

OP here: they did tell other passengers to take their stuff out.

I never said they were, but it was chaos getting off the plane because everyone had to go behind their seat to get their bags.

Of course they have control over that. I just wait until they aren't looking and put my stuff where I want.

Yes. Have you really never seen that? If there’s no room in coach, the the flight attendants have to gate check bags.

You must not fly very often if this is the most infuriating airplane situation you ever found yourself in!

Consider yourself lucky OP, truly.

Buy a first class seat next time. The fact that people think they are entitled to anything other than a place to put their but to get from point A to B unless expressly conveyed/agreed is mind boggling to me.

You have really drunk the kool-aid, haven't you? The airlines must love you!
