How will you celebrate/mark Pentecost - The Descent of the Holy Spirit this year? Pentecost is the second most important religious holiday in Christianity, after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit descended onto the followers of Jesus who became Apostles, the ones that are sent out. In that moment the Apostles receive super natural powers, including speaking in tongues, healing sick, raising dead, and other gifts of the Holy Spirit.
This verse describes Pentecost: "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”" Acts 2:1-12 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentecost |

At my church, we all wear red or orange on Pentecost. We do baptisms on Pentecost. We also have an event after church called "Tell Your Story" where people share when they recognized the Holy Spirit was active in their lives.
I really like the idea of baptisms on Pentecost. Ok, I was baptized myself on Pentecost, so maybe that's why
But I just think Eastertime just has so much other stuff going on. |
Nice traditions. |
| I wish all Christians happy Pentecost. May it be filled with wisdom and peace. May we be reminded of God's unquestionable power. |
