I am expecting my first child, and a relative has a gently used pack n play-type travel crib from approx early to mid 1990s that I could use rather than buying one. I love the idea of saving that money but am not sure how to evaluate its safety. I don't know the brand or model yet, but if I can find that out I will check for recalls of course. Any other suggestions on how to tell whether it is safe? |
Was there a rash of pack-n-plays in the 90s that collapsed and injured children? I'm not sure how it could be unsafe. |
What's the brand and model number? If you go to the brand website and know the model number you will be able to look up whether or not it has been recalled. You can also do this by going to the CPSC website at http://www.cpsc.gov/. It's my impression--and this is only my impression--that play yards have been the subject of numerous recalls. I would proceed with caution when deciding whether or not to use any used product where your child will be sleeping. |
get a new one. They are so out-dated and you will love the newer models better. Why take the chance? Not to mention the mildew and germs that have been festering since the 90's. |
