| I’m bummed with his low score. It is 79th percentile. |
| No such thing as “disqualified” in 1st grade. You can’t apply until 2nd, at which time your child may be found ineligible or eligible. Unless you already know what future Cogat and GBRS will be there’s not much to really say at this point. Wait and see. |
So you're bummed that your child scored well above average. Okay. |
| Your DC is doomed to take Calculus as a junior, or possibly even a senior. He won't be taking BC Calc as a sophomore, that's for sure. |
Wrong. This DC is destined for greatness! Don’t sweat the nNat. The least important of screening evals. |
| Yes disqualified. |
| CogAt and GBRS will outweigh nnat and 113 is not terrible. Expect that you may need to parent refer and start collecting any outstanding/unique work samples over the summer and into next school year. |
| He is doomed to life as an analyst in an insurance company and living in the suburbs. DCUM weeps for you, OP. |
| I should've never clicked on this thread. I would've been better off not knowing that there are parents like this. |
|
Let's just pretend that the NNAT is an accurate representation of your child's ability (no way to know that for sure right now)
So what? Your kid is an above average child who will be likely well served in a general ed classroom. Why in the universe are you "bummed" about that? What a terrible thing to think about a 6 year old. |
|
OP, I am in the same boat. My kid is doing pullouts for math, a strong reader, and I assumed he would qualify for AAP... then he got 117 on the NNAT. My concern is he comes home from school most days saying he didn't learn anything because he already knows it all. Given his personality and record in school so far, I have concerns about him not being challenged and being bored and disruptive if he doesn't land in AAP.
I had a conversation with the AART who basically said not to worry about it until we see how he does on the CoGAT. I also got the impression that I didn't need to collect work samples and she would be in the classroom helping build his "portfolio" in the fall of 2nd. |
There's a lot of treading water in K-2. Most kids are bored. |
| OP, if you look at the multiple admissions threads from early last month you will see that the NNAT seemed to matter very little this year. CogAT and GBRS both seem to matter so much more. |
|
I have said this in appx 30 threads here but my kid scored similarly on the NNaT and I thought: “so, I guess AAP is a no,” and moved on with my life. DH and I discussed that we were not going to parent refer because we have younger siblings and it would be easier if they were all at the same school. Then, lo and behold DC tested in to the pool on the Cogat and got in. We did not prep DC for any of the tests.
|
| OP, ignore all the snarky moms. Those saying don't worry about NNAT are correct. My DC also didn't do great on them, but still made the pool with Cogat and got in. |
