| Does anyone have any recommendations for an elementary school that does special education well in MCPS? Preferably Rockville, but maybe Potomac? |
| I’ve had 2 children in special education with vastly different experiences, but both in the same school. This is a tough question to answer because it depends on the principal, special educator, and other support staff. These staff can change over your child’s time there, which is what happened in our case. So a school can be great this year and not great the next. |
| No personal experience, but I know people whose SN son went to Beverly Farms in Potomac and they were very happy. |

What are your special education needs? Full inclusion? Autism support? Life skills?
|
| OP here. Hopefully full inclusion, but maybe some limited pull-out. Learning support for an SLD. Thanks! |

Does your child have an IEP already? I ask because I have learned that a diagnosis doesn’t mean a child will necessarily qualify for services. It took a lot of time, effort and money to get my son’s IEP in place, but services provided by MCPS were minimal and hardly sufficient to remediate an LD or his OT issues. We did A LOT of private. It is important to choose a school with a good reputation for special ed but it’s also important to be realistic about what even the best schools will provide in MCPS.
Our son attended Cold Spring. There’s been a change in principal, special educator and SLP and things are markedly better now. |
| OP, here. Yes, we have an IEP. I know it can be so individual, but we'd love to find somewhere with the capacity and interest to support LDs. Thanks on Cold Spring. |
