Worth calling school about waitlist?

Anonymous
Has anyone ever called the schools to ask what chance their child has to get in, if they're currently on the waitlist? Is it worth a try?

Sure- it can't hurt! What school?

They may not be able to do more than guess. So don't rely on it.

But most will tell you if it's hopeless, or likely or a real maybe.

Do not do this.

It is May 10th. The school is processing enrollment paperwork from current returning students as well as incoming new students. They are concerned with the end of the school year. If there is a wait list, it means that they have extended offers for all the available seats. If those people have enrolled, the school has no way of knowing if they will suddenly change their minds or not.

Assume that your child will not get in and make other plans. Then change those plans if your child gets in after all.

Maybe not. I got in last year at #22, late August. If you are willing to grab a spot in October it could happen. And they are going to three Ks next year so you would totally get in for K.

However, in K people start to evaluate middle school more seriously, so....

In May? No.

Seriously, they're busy with a lot of things and enrolling new students is much lower on the priority list than managing the current students. Wait until school gets out. Any school that is jumping through hoops for you now has their priorities out of whack.

Prek4. They just said that they're still in the process of making alot of waitlist offers, and if the list isn't moving very fast just be a bit patient. That was the jist.
